Surrounding Area

Humble is an old Texas oil “boom town” and was home to Humble Oil, later known as Esso and today as ExxonMobil. Located at the crossroads of US 59/I-69 and FM 1960, Humble has historical significance in the story of the northeast Houston piney woods region. Pronounced “Umble” by the locals, the city is now a center for shopping, restaurants, and entertainment. For example, the popular Deerbrook Mall, which features such major retail giants as Macy’s, Dillard’s, and JCPenney, is central to Humble. The city’s own museum tells the rich history of the community, while historical markers located throughout the area bring that history to life.

Atascocita is bordered by Lake Houston to the east and Humble to the west. It offers a suburban feel with a variety of recreational opportunities, including several parks, country clubs, and golf courses. Most residents of Atascocita own their homes.

North of Kingwood, where Montgomery County and Harris County meet, are the fast-growing residential communities of Porter and New Caney, which include burgeoning housing developments such as Valley Ranch, Tavola, The Highlands and Roman Forest. These new and growing communities are generally located along US 59/I-69 and TX-99 and connecting highways, enabling their residents to commute for work and worship all over the Houston area. Good Shepherd Church in Kingwood is the only Episcopal church near this rapidly developing area.
